How to Pay the (Late) Electric Bill in Phuket
I'm writing this guide as well as this one and this one in the hopes that someone new to Thailand (or Asia in general) might find them helpful. When I first arrived over here I could have definitely used some tips.
So, when we came back from our visa run to Malaysia the other day we found our electric bill shoved under the door. It was now late and on top of that the 7-11 wouldn't allow us to pay it (as we usually do). Their system and the Thai electric company had set up a new service that wasn't live yet. What a problem!!
After a bit of asking around town all I was able to find out was that I needed to "go to Phuket". Well considering I live in Phuket that didn't really help. I assumed the various people I asked meant Phuket Town and after thinking about it, I vaguely remembered driving past a sign that had a lighting bolt on it on the many trips we've made to Central Festival Mall or the Weekend Night Market.
So I drove north towards the market and after nearly get in about 5 wrecks I found it. If you start in Rawai Beach and head north here are my directions.
***Note*** The 'Provincial Electricity Authority - Chalong Branch' is about 8km north from Rawai Beach.
1. From Rawai beach, drive north, past the Chalong Circle and go straight. (the direction towards Central Festival Mall)
2. Keep going all the way past the Thai Silk Collection.
3. Keep going until you pass the Chalong Language School.
4. On your left about 1km past the Chalong Language School you will pass a tiny sign for TOT. Slow down and the next group of big buildings on your left there will be a huge sign for another, larger TOT. Just after that is the Provincial Electricity Authority building for Chalong.
It looks like its private as there will probably be a security guard but just drive past him (I did) and park in front of the building in the back of the lot.
Make sure you take your shoes off!!
Tip: Get a ticket from the run down looking ticket machine in the corner. I didn't know you needed a ticket and the 3 people who walked in behind me grabbed a ticket and left me waiting.
I hope this guide helps. If so, drop me a comment or message using the above link. Happy travels!
