Luminar 2018 Review | Is it for you?

The 2018 edition of Luminar is the latest from Developer Macphun (soon to be Skylum as they are no longer creating Mac only software) and is meant to compete with the likes of Lightroom and Affinity among other popular photo editing software. When I first saw an ad several months ago for Luminar I dismissed it as another attempt at competing with Lightroom or the countless other programs for processing RAW files. I am pleased to say after using Luminar for the past week I am VERY impressed. It's not perfect, but instead is a very powerful image editor that easily stands on its own. RAW vs JPEG

In this blog post i'm going to show you why I shoot RAW instead of JPEG and the differences between both. There is no easy way to say whether RAW or JPEG is better for you. In the end, you have to think about your workflow and what you want out of the final image. If you want to tinker with your image to get that perfect exposure that you see on magazine covers or gallery walls then raw is for you.  If you want to bracket many exposures and layer them into an HDR to achieve that ethereal look, then you guessed it, RAW.
