The Decade In Review - 10 Years Of My Photography
I wanted to reflect on the last decade of my life and show some of the absolutely incredible places i’ve been able to visit. Instead of describing every year in detail I’ll just write a little bit where I feel it needs it. I’ve also labeled each image as to where it was taken. Below are the images broken up mostly by year with a few additional comments, starting with 2019 going backward.
2019: Italy in the spring, Mexico in the summer and Havasupai in the Fall. We also visited southern Arizona where I was able to finally capture the night sky behind the desert landscape.
Milky Way Galaxy
This is the other half of the Milky Way that we can’t see up in the northern hemisphere. Starting from the left of the image you can see the Carina nebula, Coalsack dark nebula, Crux, Alpha Centauri, Galactic core, Antares, and Altair. This mosaic is made of over 100 images taken on about 30 different nights (due to weather) across two different years.
The images were captured on a Canon 6D and a 40mm lens while using a Vixen Polarie equatorial mount. I decided to reprocess it and am finally happy with the result.

2017: We spent most of 2017 designing and building our tiny house so that we could continue to travel once we had a proper place to call our own. We did a big road trip to California and saw the ancient bristlecone pines, Yosemite, and some natural areas on the coast before heading back home through Joshua Tree.

2016: We ventured back to Australia with Carmen, Jenna and Jenny where I planned my proposal at Uluru under an epic sunset. We road tripped over 11,000 kilometers through the massive continent and returned with some incredible views of the outback and its wildlife.
Inner Basin of San Fransisco Peaks
I snowshoed up here and camped over night with Troy Marino to capture an image he had envisioned for a long time. He hiked up the north side of Fremont Peak and skied down in the dark after drawing a pattern in the snow with a flash light.

2015: Living in New Zealand and Australia and capturing photographs of exotic locations almost daily was something that really pushed my creative side and gave me an opportunity to hone my skills and learn. We lived in Wellington, New Zealand before packing our bags and heading for the South Island to travel for a month. Afterwards we moved to Melbourne, Australia where we worked for a few months before heading back to New Zealand in the fall (southern spring) to travel with my parents. I then traveled to the Great Barrier Reef where I lived on a dive boat for just over a week before heading home right before Christmas.
Lake Aniwhenua, New Zealand
We lived with wonderful Maori family for a couple of weeks and helped with farm duties and experienced a new culture. We had such an incredible time living with Nadine and Karl, eating a Hangi twice a week and watching the sun set on their incredible property.

2014: This was the first year I really jumped in the deep end and tried to make money through photography. We traveled to Asia with my mom for several months before moving to New Zealand. I was able to revisit many of the locations I felt I didn’t get the images I wanted to with the Canon G12 such as Angkor Wat, the jungle and seascapes of Phuket. In the summer we moved to New Zealand where we traveled around the north island for a while before settling in Wellington where we would be based out of for the next 12 months. We met some lifelong friends while living there, some of my favorite memories of all my travels are from Wellington.

2013: This year we spent mostly working and didn’t get to travel too much. We did a couple trips to Antelope Canyon, the Grand Canyon and Zion. I did a lot of portrait shoots that I won’t include here, but we did end up beginning our planning for the next few years of major travel overseas.

2011 & 2012: This was the first big year and it started in right at the end of 2011. When I met my good friend Eric he was getting ready to go to Asia in November. I had zero international experience but had just finished a 6500 mile road trip around the United States and had always wanted to see other countries. I sold my car, every possession that had value (except my G12!) and cashed my measly 401K. Next I bought a one way ticket to Bangkok, Thailand where Eric and I ended up having some incredible experiences. We got apartments in Phuket, Thailand, worked with a night club on Bangla Road in Patong Beach (basically the Las Vegas of Asia) and rented motorbikes by the month. The first part of 2012 was spent continuing our travels through Asia after Tiffany came over for New Years and we ended up coming home by March. Other travels during this year included trips to Monument Valley and Alaska.

Khao Sok is a large jungle area in south Thailand. I made multiple road trips on my motorbike where I slept in the jungle. There are wild elephants and tigers and leeches that fall from the trees like rain. The trails and sunrises are some of my favorite memories of Thailand.

Well, that was the last decade of my life! I’m proud of what i’ve accomplished but at the same time I know I’ve just scratched the surface of what there is to see on Earth. I can’t wait to travel to new places and continue documenting the world as I see it. I am so excited for what 2020 and beyond brings. I only have three more continents to check off my list, maybe by the end of the decade I’ll be able to say I’ve been to all of them. Tanzania in Africa is the main contender for the next big international trip and Peru has always been somewhere I’ve wanted to photograph. Antarctica is the tricky one but for ‘only’ $6000 a trip can be had. Once we are out of school that might an option before we buy property somewhere and design our next tiny house, one made from Cob. :)
Thank you to all those that have supported me in so many ways over the years. I appreciate each and every one of you and I look forward to sharing more places with you soon.
